Kid-Friendly New Year’s Resolutions

It’s already a week past New Year’s Day, which means plenty of people have already made and abandoned their New Year’s Resolutions. But as a parent, you know the importance of following through, and of setting a good example. Luckily, it’s not too late to make a few simple resolutions that you might actually keep – and that might actually be a good influence on your children as well!

Stay Active with Your Kids – If you make a resolution about going to the gym every day, you’ll fail quickly. But modeling active behavior for your children, even your toddlers and younger babies, will have a lasting influence on them. So make time to run around with your little ones at the park, go for family hikes and bike rides, or enjoy some swimming at the local pool. This will not only keep you more fit and active, but you will be teaching your children that physical activity is both important and fun!

Make Some Healthy Snacks for the Family – Once again, this resolution is the perfect blend of keeping yourself happy and healthy, and making sure you’re providing good lessons to your kids. It’s so easy to get into the habit of snacking on chips and candy, and even easier for kids to get into that habit. But it’s easy to make healthy – and delicious – snacks that your kids will enjoy eating (and maybe even making!) Try some ants on a log with celery, some carrots and a healthy hummus or veggie dip, and some peanut butter on whole wheat toast or crackers as a starter. Getting your kids and yourself to eat healthier will be easier if it’s simple, fun, and delicious!

Don’t Sweat the Small Stuff – With kids to care for, it’s easy to get bogged down in the little things. From trying to decide on just the right stroller to trying to figure out just the right baby outfit to make your child look adorable, there’s a lot filling your mind. This year, resolve to take it easy and don’t sweat the small stuff. Don’t be afraid to take the easy way out of some of these more minor issues – any stroller that can transport your children and their supplies is a good one!   And you can find one or two great places to buy your baby and toddler clothing to ease up on the stress of shopping. With a wide selection of adorable and affordable clothes for your little ones, we think Dinky’s can help with that last part!

In the end, it’s just about making sure you have a happy, healthy, and (relatively) stress-free 2015 with your loved ones. And a few good resolutions never hurt anyone trying to achieve that! Happy New Year!
