Ideas for a Kid-Friendly Valentine’s Day

It’s never too early to start teaching your little ones to treasure a holiday that celebrates all kinds of love. Valentine’s Day is often celebrated as a holiday for couples, but kids can definitely appreciate affection, crafts, and chocolate! So this year, why not plan some kid-friendly crafts and treats to enjoy with your whole family?

You can start with the traditional of course – construction paper Valentines! You can help your toddlers with cutting out the hearts, then give them free reign to decorate with stickers, crayons, and whatever other supplies you have on hand. As an added bonus, by encouraging them to make Valentines for their loved ones, you’ll be teaching them to appreciate the important people in their lives. If your kids are a little older and okay with smaller items, you can try some beaded bracelets and necklaces – plastic heart beads will be a great way to get into the holiday spirit, and help your children make creative gifts for their Valentines!

When you’re done with crafting, you can move on to the most beloved of holiday traditions, baking! Use your favorite sugar cookie recipe for a simple and fun activity. Your children can help stir, and you can even guide them through cookie cutting. If you and they are really into cooking, you can even decorate with some simple frosting to keep the crafting going in the kitchen too! And when you’re done baking, use that heart-shaped cookie cutter for some fun Valentine’s Day shaped sandwiches for lunch.

It’s easy to make Valentine’s Day a family holiday with simple crafts and cooking. Just make sure that your children are comfortably dressed in some easily washable girls' and boys' clothes for when things get messy. We can take care of that here at Dinky’s, with our wide variety of comfortable, durable, and fashionable toddler clothing!
